I would like to wish all of our alumni, members and friends a Happy New Year 2075 Bikram Sambat. I am confident that 2075 B.S. will be an exciting year and I look forward to work with you all to make Godavari Alumni Association (GAA), a vibrant and engaging organization that seeks to fulfill both the social and intellectual needs of our members.
I, along with my board members have worked hard in our first hundred days as the new GAA Board for 2018-2020 to engage our members and alumni to our activities. GAA organized a blanket drive in the first week of January, 2018 to help the cold wave victims. We managed to collect Rs 190,000 (1.9 lakhs) from our alumni and GAA contributed Rs 100,000 (1 lakh) from its internal funds to purchase blankets and deliver it to the needy people in Terai. More than 500 families received assistance from our blanket drive.
GAA and ASMAN jointly organized a ‘Career Counseling’ event on February 18th, 2018 for students of St. Xavier’s and St. Mary’s School. Xavierian and Marian speakers inspired the students with their speeches. More than 800 students participated in the event.
GAA organized a health camp on March 24th, 2018 at Shree Padma Higher Secondary School in Bhaktapur. More than 20 Xavierian doctors and 50 volunteers assisted in the medical camp and we were able to serve more than 1,000 local residents. We also provided medicine worth Rs 500,000 (5 lakhs) to those who sought treatment at the medical camp.
GAA organized a felicitation program on March 30th, 2018 for our alumni who had received recognition from private, social, government and international organizations. GAA felicitated Bijaya Man Sherchan (’61) / Hydropower, Gyanendra Ratna Tuladhar (’66) / Business, Dr. Buland Thapa (’73) / Health , Allen Tuladhar (’82) / IT , Raj B. Thapa ‘(81) and Bijendra Basnyat (’85) / Solar , Rupak Dev Sharma (’93) / Journalism , Bibhuti Karki (‘2015) / Sports / Tennis , for being recognized for their work by various organizations in recent months.
GAA will be conducting a memorial service for Fr. Chambers S.J. who passed away in USA at the age of 93 recently. The memorial service is scheduled for 16th April 2018 to coincide with the thirteenth day of his demise.
And lastly, GAA is organizing a ‘Welcome Party’ for recent 2018 SEE graduates of St. Xavier’s Jawlakhel, St. Xavier’s Godavari and St. Mary’s School on April 20th, 2018. GAA will also be organizing its GAA Forum, networking events and other arts and cultural programs for our members from the month of May onwards.
The new GAA Board would like to wish all of you and your family a very Happy New Year. We are currently working to update the Life Members’ List and the current database might be incomplete and some may be out of date as well. If you know any life members who have not been receiving emails from GAA then do let us know and we will make sure that life members info are updated often.
The GAA Board has decided to contribute Rs 100,000 (One Lakh Rupees) for the cold wave victims in Terai region. GAA will buy blankets and distribute it to the families in Terai. This project has been initiated by Vice President Mr. Binod Tuladhar (74′). GAA is planning to open a separate ‘Disaster Relief & Management’ Account in the future to help those in need during times of natural disasters. We will keep you updated on this as well. Currently, we are using the bank accounts below:
